Hi there!

Thanks for taking the time to look at my capsule process.

Does this sound like you?

  • You’re tired of wasting your time and money shopping, only to end up wearing 10% of your clothes (you’re not the only one?

  • You spend every morning staring at a sea of clothes but never feeling like you have anything to wear?

  • You feel like you never know what goes together or what to pair with what (maybe you even have clothes you love that still have tags because you don’t know how to match them)?

  • You don’t really know what your style is: you always buy whatever’s currently trendy or whatever the sales people (or pushy friends) tell you to buy, never feeling quite like “Yes! This is me!”?

What if…

  • You woke up in the morning, opened your closet, and put together an outfit in under 5 minutes?

  • You never fret about what to wear to that [birthday party, pitch meeting, interview, first date, etc]?

  • Your closet was filled with only your favorite items—the ones you love to wear over and over again?

Introducing, the Seasonal Capsule Wardrobe

Here is an example of a capsule done for one of my clients, Megan, a VP of Marketing in Silicon Valley.

  1. First, we hopped on a call to get to know each other better. I asked about her lifestyle and wardrobe issues, as well as anything else I should know about her style, buying patterns, and comfort level with fashion. I also had her answer a questionnaire about her lifestyle, goals, sizes, likes and dislikes, etc. I then guided her through creating a Style Vision Board on Pinterest. Overall, she wanted to feel professional, feminine but laid back, with a bit of an edge.

2. I then analyze her natural coloring to find her color season. Megan is a cool winter, which means she looks best in very cool, bright colors.

3. I then analyzed and distilled her Style Vision Board and questionnaire answers into a mood board that reflects her inspiration, aesthetic, best colors, and some key outfit examples. We hopped on another call to go through her closet, decide what to keep and get rid of, and decide on any key pieces we want to include in her capsule wardrobe.

4. Then, I pulled together a 20 piece wardrobe of key pieces that are all reflective of her ideal style and are easy to mix-and-match together. This includes items she already has and loves, as well as suggested pieces she can then buy at her leisure. I will often include a few different options for certain items so she can choose which one she likes best.

5. I also put together outfit ideas using the 20 pieces, so she has a lookbook of outfit ideas that stretch her fewer, better pieces into dozens of outfits.

And that is a capsule wardrobe in a nutshell.

If you’re still interested, here are a few benefits of a capsule wardrobe:

  • Clarity: Whittling down your wardrobe will force you to identify a strong sense of authentic personal style.

  • Savings: With a limited wardrobe, you wont need to buy a lot of new pieces every season. You can make more intentional purchases, spending a bit more for quality pieces rather than buying a lot of trendy, low-quality items.

  • Ease: Get your time and mental space back. With fewer choices of pieces that you love and go together, looking put together and authentically stylish everyday is easy.

  • Sustainability: Wearing what we own and investing in high quality pieces cuts down on the amount of clothing waste that ends up in landfills—everybody wins!
